Significance to Zimbabwe and the SADC Region
The Inland (Dry) Port development in the Sunway City Industrial Park will handle high bulk low value container traffic of goods to and from Beira as well as other major ports of Maputo, Durban and Richards Bay by rail and road. It will also handle high value low bulk goods to and from the entire region by air through synergies with the Air Cargo Hub development at the Harare International Airport, hence forming a major hub in Harare and increasing intra-regional trade.
Beira Corridor Developments
The Beira Corridor actually starts from Sunway City and all the way to Mozambique. A lot of construction projects are expected to be undertaken in the Sunway City Integrated Park as the Park stands out as a Spatial Development Initiative (SDI) and spreading out all the way to Mozambique through promoters Beira Corridor Investments. Sunway City is working closely with these promoters in re-enacting this initiative. Some significant projects have already been undertaken along the Beira Corridor e.g. Comoil Service Station project in Marondera, Halfway House and Total Service Station in Headlands, etc. Further growth is also expected to occur from the Beira Corridor Spatial Development Initiative (SDI) outwards into the hinterland both in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Beira Corridor Investments and Sunway City would want to build on these successes along the Corridor. Such developments will increase intra-trade between Zimbabwe and Mozambique as well as other regional countries like Malawi.
Zimbabwe/DRC Oil Pipeline
Another development believed to be at an advanced stage is the construction of an oil pipeline linking Zimbabwe, Zambia and the DRC. This development, like the Beira Corridor, will originate from the Sunway City Industrial Park and will also increase intra-regional trade among these SADC countries.
The EPZ offers opportunities for companies in the region to set up, in partnership with Sunway City, factories and Bonded Warehouses.
Local and international investors in the Park enjoy other support facilities in the development such as up-market Shopping Centres, Accommodation services of their choice, Cultural Centres, world class training institutions, Recreational and sporting facilities, specialised medical facilities, etc.
This Industrial Park development is set to improve the living standards of, not only the local people, but also regional and international employees through increased employment creation opportunities. With more people being employed and the various companies contributing towards corporate tax, the country’s revenue base is widened and this enables the Government to meet other pressing social commitments and thus leading to overall economic development.
